There are many types of coffee. In this article, we will explain in detail about types of coffee and more.
There are four types of coffee available. These types have slight variations but all have unique features about them which can be found in their tastes and flavors.
These types are:
1. Arabica Coffee beans
Arabica is one of the two types of coffee beans that are used for making coffee. The other type is called Robusta or Coffea Canephora. The difference between both types is that Arabica has a slightly milder flavor as compared to Robusta, but it also contains less caffeine than Robusta. This type comes from the plant species Coffea arabica Linn., originating from East Africa.
2. Robusta Coffee Beans/Coffea Canephora
The second type of coffee is Robusta (or Coffea Canephora). This type has a slightly bitter and harsh flavor when compared to Arabica. It also contains more caffeine content than Arabica, thus making it a relatively cheap product in the market.
3. Instant Coffee/Brewed Coffee
This type comes from the types previously mentioned, but it undergoes an additional process that makes it lose its unique taste and flavors. It dissolves quickly after being mixed with water and does not require much time for preparation.
4. Decaffeinated Coffee Beans
This is another variety that comes from the types previously mentioned, but this one removes the content of caffeine from it using any chemical or physical process such as water and steam.
Now that we have listed the types of coffee, let us describe them in detail.
Arabica Coffee beans
This is the most popular variety of Coffee beans and types of coffee available in today’s market. This type of coffee tastes slightly more bitter than Robusta with a mild flavor. It contains about 1% caffeine content only, which makes it less harmful to our health (than Robusta). Arabica types of coffee can be found in almost every local shop or perhaps international shops like Starbucks, but since it is more expensive than other types; many people tend to prefer Robusta types of coffee due to their taste and lower price range. Some common Arabian types are Maragogype (Thin-skinned), SL28 (Popular Kenyan types), and Typica (Popular types from Costa Rica).
Robusta Coffee Beans/Coffea Canephora
These types of coffee come from a variety of plant species, known as Coffea canephora. This type contains slightly harsh flavors and higher caffeine content than Arabica types of coffee, which makes it a popular choice among people who do not prefer sugar in their drink. It tastes less bitter but the caffeine content makes it an ideal pick for people who need extra energy to work or study throughout the day. Some common types are Robusta Kona Washed (Hawaii types), Sulawesi Toarco Mountain Red Bourbon Natural Processed (Indonesia types), and Monsooned Malabar types (India types).
Instant Coffee/Brewed Coffee
This type of coffee is a relatively new invention in the market. It comes from the types previously mentioned, but it undergoes an additional process that makes it lose its unique taste and flavors. It dissolves quickly after being mixed with water and does not require much time for preparation. In this way, people can simply add hot water to get a cup of coffee instantly without any hustle at all. Generally, the types of instant coffee available in the market are Robusta types of coffee since they usually do not need much time for grinding or brewing before mixing with water. Types that you may find in local shops or international outlets like Starbucks are Nescafe 3-in-1 Colombian types, Nescafe types, and Moccona types.
Decaffeinated Coffee Beans
This type of coffee comes from the types previously mentioned, but this one removes the content of caffeine (less than Robusta types) using any chemical or physical process such as water and steam. Decaf types are preferred by people who do not drink regular types due to their higher caffeine content which makes them harmful to health in large amounts. Some common types are Italian (Viaso Decaf), Swiss Water Processed (Switzerland types), and Colombian Milds/Flat Flavored types (Colombian types).
These are four main types of coffee that you can see almost everywhere today. While there are hundreds of other types available in the market such as Coffea Luxury types, types for digestive systems, types for heartburn, and types with special flavors; we have not described them here since they will take up a lot of our space.
