These are brown coffee beans after medium roast. It is very rare to find medium roasted coffee beans that have an oily surface. You will get medium acidity as well as rounded flavor. Also, these coffee beans preserve various unique features from the origin of the coffee bean. But it also hit the deep caramel sweetness of the coffee because of the longer roast. Coffee roasters mostly love medium roasts as these coffee beans are more approachable to most coffee drinkers. They taste intense and less acidic than light roast coffees. However, it manages to retain some of the natural flavors of the coffee beans.

The Dark Beans

These dark brown coffee beans have oily surface but have low acidity and darker, deeper flavors. The original tastes of the beans change after dark roasting. But it doesn’t make the coffee boring and bland. Some dark coffees really taste great because of the chocolaty, caramelized and nutty flavors.

There are huge differences between dark and light roasted coffees. You should try them side-by-side to understand the taste difference. You will rarely find 1 to 2 types of dark roasted coffees from coffee roasters. As there is not much diversity in flavor, they have very few variations.

Other Types Of Roast

If you think there are only three types of roasted beans then behold, here comes the Italian roast, French roast, espresso roast, continental roast, New Orleans. These are way darker than the dark roasted coffee. You will find these coffees, almost black and super oily. Mostly these tastes like burned coffee. Roasters don’t like to make these type of roasts.
